Centenary Bowls Matches
ROYAL HOSPITAL CHELSEA ("Chelsea Pensioners")
The Bowls Club, welcomed the Chelsea Pensioners on Wednesday 6th July.
After parading from Mountfield Road, up past the croquet lawn and into the bowls green, they posed for photographs in front of the bowls pavilion in their familiar red uniforms. After which, they got down to the serious business of a game of bowls, having changed into more appropriate bowling attire!
Four rinks were played and each rink played eighteen ends with a break for tea half way through.
The match was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone, with the weather being kind to us once again.
The afternoon was finished off with a sit-down buffet lunch and presentations being made to the club and to the Pensioners.
We parted around 6.30pm with an invitation next year from them to play on their home ground at the Royal Hospital Chelsea – something that the club is very much looking forward too.

County Vice Patrons
Lewes Bowls club celebrated its Centenary Year in 2022.
The club held a number of special events to commemorate this milestone, and the first was to host a team from the Sussex County Vice Patrons, for a four rink match. The weather was kind to us and the match was very much enjoyed by all the players and guests.
This was followed by a Sussex County Presidential team. For the first time since Covid- 19 stopped all bowling activities, all six rinks were played on and the club hosted some 60 players and guests. Again the weather was perfect and the day was finished off with a cold buffet and good use made of the bar!
The next main event was the Club hosting a team from the Chelsea Pensioners, details are mentioned above.
