  About the Club

Lewes Bowls Club is where bowls is played in delightful surroundings in an atmosphere of friendly fun since 1922. Now with a recently re-laid green and a modern clubhouse we offer excellent facilities that cater for all abilities from beginners to County players. The Club is Mixed (men and ladies) and offers the full range of bowling activities (Events).

An easy "Roll up" in the sun

In the summer season there are regular "Roll-ups" (sessions for casual play and practice) and an extensive programme of Men's, Ladies' and Mixed matches as well as Club Competitions. Some members enter County and National competitions while the men compete in the Brighton, Hove & District League.

During the winter months there are regular sessions of "Short Mat Bowls" in the clubhouse.

Indoor bowls for months of snow

New members will be warmly welcomed whether beginners or experienced bowlers. Coaching facilities are provided for those who require it. All you need to come and try your hand at this ancient game is a flat pair of shoes as the club will be pleased to lend you bowls and show you the ropes at any convenient time or at our early season "Open Day" (for details contact the Administration Officer).

Facilities are of a high standard. We have a modern clubhouse which has a bar and changing rooms for men, ladies and visitors. The social area easily provides table space for 6 rinks plus visitors.

The Green is situated on the southern outskirts of historic Lewes (still not far from the center of this compact town) having views over the Ouse valley to the South Downs. The green has 6 rinks and was re-laid in the Autumn of 2005. There is a Public Car Park adjacent to the Green.

Touring Clubs are most welcome. Visitors to Lewes can enjoy historic buildings such as the remains of its Norman Castle, a house owned by Anne of Cleves now containing a local museum, the ruins of a Cluniac Priory close by the Green and numerous interesting shops, restaurants and public houses. We also have a prize-winning local brewery in the town. The seaside towns of Eastbourne (15 miles) and Brighton (8 miles) are within easy reach.
