We would like to update you on the current guidelines for play on the Green, following new advice from Bowls England which will apply from Monday 17th May. Firstly though, the club held it’s opening organized event on Sunday 9th May, with a pair’s competition using five of the six rinks. This was quite different to the usual Opening Drive and had been put back a couple of weeks because of car parking problems and the weather. Nevertheless, there was a good turn-out and it was blessed by a lovely sunny afternoon.
Turning now to the current guidance, which will remain valid until at least Monday 21st June - stage 4 of the government road map: -
All formats can be played on a six rink Green. This means that singles, pairs, triples and rinks can be played without restriction. This gives a maximum of up to 48 players on the Green.
Car sharing is now allowed. However, individuals may still feel more comfortable wearing a mask inside the car, but it is optional.
The changing rooms and toilets are open, but try to limit the number of people inside the Pavilion at any one time. The practice of social distancing should still be maintained and face masks should be worn within the Pavilion. Minimize the use of the Pavilion as much as you can. Try to come prepared to play, if possible.
It will not be necessary for players to wear masks while playing. It is considered that wearing a mask could restrict breathing efficiency and should not be used unless a doctor advises it.
Spectators or visitors are now allowed up to a maximum of a group of 30. In our situation, we are unlikely to get anywhere near that number.
Casual play, including roll-ups are still not considered as “organised club events” and are therefore subject to a maximum of 30 players in any one of the three daily sessions – 10.00 to 12.00am, 2.00 to 4.00pm and 6.00 to 8.00pm. The pre-booking system still applies.
Members wishing to play as a roll-up or other casual play must contact the Chairman, David Holmes, on 01273 890191 at least 24 hours in advance to check availability and book. If the call goes to an answerphone, leave a message. All bookings will be confirmed by telephone. Do not turn up at the Green without this confirmation. If you have the NHS application, please use the NHS QR code facility on the door of the Pavilion to enable the test and trace system to operate. This is backed up by the pre- booking system, so that a complete record is maintained of attendees.
It will now be possible to open the kitchen for the purpose of providing tea/ coffee/ biscuits. However, these should be served outside of the Pavilion, with the minimum number of people inside the kitchen arranging the refreshments and clearing up. Have the refreshments outside the Pavilion or on the benches around the Green. If the weather is bad and this is not possible, do not to offer any refreshments, so as to avoid too many people gathering inside the Pavilion.
To ensure uniform use of the Green, the Green Usage Board inside the Pavilion will be updated, showing which rinks to be used on a daily basis by colour and direction. Please refer to the Board before setting out a rink.
Equipment for the Green will be available in the equipment shed as normal. Limit the amount of equipment used to that required to play the game/match. For example, mats, jacks and rink markers are clearly essential but score boards, two metre rods are not. Use sanitizing as often as you can when handling equipment. Handle only your own bowls and it is good practice to let only the number ones handle the jack.
Keep in mind good hygiene precautions all the time. Hand sanitizers are provided in many locations and use these regularly. When finished playing, wash hands before leaving and do the same on arriving home. Above all, keep safe.
The first friendly fixture is scheduled for Saturday 22nd May against Adastra and we hope this will take place, all being well. Meanwhile an “organized event “will be arranged for Sunday afternoons commencing at 2.00pm. These will take place each Sunday, up until Sunday 23rd May, after which the fixture list will start to apply. If you wish to play in these Sunday afternoons events, please contact the Chairman on 01273 890191 The format of play will depend on how many apply.
Fixture cards are in the process of being prepared and will be available in member’s lockers as soon as available. The fixtures are also available to see on the club web site as well as a copy of this letter.
We hope to see many more of you back on the Green and once again enjoying a game of bowls.
